Ofer Golany scheurt Israëlische hypocrisie open in zijn zevende album vol met magie en overweldigende intensiteit. Socio-economisch protest sijpelt langzaam door in de media (en zal snel verdwijnen). Politiek verschil lost op in de druipende was van de monumentale kandelaars op het Radin plein. Iedereen is als aan de grond genageld door de televisie en hebben hun ziel verkocht aan Sharon voor een gereduceerde prijs. En aan de andere kant is daar Ofer Golany. Als hij niet had bestaan, dan moesten wij hem uitvinden. Zijn CD, of preciezer, zijn project, dat heeft hij te zeggen over het leven, een revue van overweldigende intensiteit, vol met magie en waarheid, genaamd "Alternative", welke in het Hebreeuws uitkwam (en ook in een Engelse versie) raakt je geweldig, verloopt van klezmir ritmes tot ruwe Caananite jazz-blues. Misschien worden we uiteindelijk wakker.

Tot mijn grote verrassing, is dat alweer het zevende album van Golany, een briljant café zanger die bijt, beledigd en splijt de misleidende Israëlische hypocrisie in kleine stukjes (hashish en de vlag, schijnheilige praat en partijganger, Judaïsme en Himmler, het internet en groep seks) met de meeste van zijn pijlen gericht op het Israëlische leger. In het begeleidende tekstboekje, zijn naast de liedteksten, citaten, echt of gefantaseerd, van documenten en getuigschriften afgegeven aan veerschillende militaire comités. Golany kan extreem cynisch zijn maar ook liefdevol. Liefde van menselijkheid of de liefde van een vrouw in twee-en-twintig nummers, zoals de twee-en-twintig letters van het Hebreeuwse alfabet, dat bij tussenpozen geseld en streeld, laat de luisteraar niet los tot het einde.

Ofer levert een muzikale bootschap met verve en steil. Zijn creatieve mengeling van folk/jazz houdt je alert, en ik hoop dat de regering van Israël ook alert is op zijn antimilitaristische bootschap in de prachtige moderne traditie van pacifist/singer-songwriters.

De veelzijdige – individuele mening van deze CD is vastberaden om onze poging tot het overhalen van de jeugd om geen vragen te stellen en zichzelf te geven aan het leger en de staat. Als iedereen naar dhr. Golany zal luisteren, dan wordt ik werkeloos.

Ofer Golany rips apart Israeli hypocrisy in his seventh album full of magic and overwhelming intensity Socioeconomic protest seeps slowly into the media (and will soon disappear). Political dissent is lost in the dripping wax of the memorial candles at Rabin square. Everybody and their sister have been transfixed by television and have sold their souls to Sharon at discount prices. And on the other side there's Ofer Golany. If he didn't exist we'd have to invent him. His disc, or to be more precise, his project, that is his piece of life, a revue of overwhelming intensity, full of magic and truth, called "Alternative," which came out in Hebrew (and also in an English version) hits you on the head and kicks you in the stomach, runs toward hasidic rhythms and barks Caananite jazz-blues. Maybe at last we'll wake up.

Much to my surprise, this is already the seventh album by Golany, a brilliant pub singer who stings, insults and rips the deceptive Israeli hypocrisy into tiny pieces (hashish and the flag, cantor and partisan, Judaism and Himmler, the Internet and group sex) with most of his arrows directed at the Israeli Defence Forces. In the accompanying booklet, along with the lyrics, there are quotes, real or imaginary, from documents and testimonies given to various military committees. Golany can be extremely cynical but also full of love. Love of humanity or the love of a woman in twenty-two tracks, like the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, that intermittently whip and caress, not letting go of the listener to the bitter end.

A Great Integration of Music and Message

Ofer delivers a musical message with verve and style. His creative blend of folk/jazz keeps you on your toes, as I hope the government of Israel is also kept on their toes by his anti-militaristic message in the grand modern tradition of pacifist/singer-songwriters.

the pluralistic - individualistic mindset of this cd is deterimental to our attempts to convince youth not to question and to give themselves to the army and state . If everyone listened to mr. Golany i would be unemployed.
